Revitalization in Magna

We are excited for the return of our monthly educational lunch events. We provide chamber members and guests the opportunity to engage and network with each other, learn about local businesses and connect with potential clients/customers that will move their businesses forward.

Our September 2021 luncheon will be on the Revitalization in Magna.  Jevon Gibb & Todd Anderson, from Salt Lake County Economic Development will present an overview of Magna’s “catalyst areas”. Rudy Miera, from Inclusion Strategies will present on the Magna Chamber of Commerce EICAP grant.

Lunch will be catered by Cafe Rio – Beef Enchiladas, Black Beans, Corn Tortilla, Creamy Tomatillo Sauce AND Tres Leches Cake. Members can REGISTER NOW for $15.

Magna Independence Day 2021

On behalf of the Magna 4th of July committee, we are extending an invitation to you to join us in celebrating Independence Day on July 3rd, 2021 in Magna, Utah.  
 
We would love to have you participate in the parade, which starts at noon on July 3rd.  Parade entries can be submitted online at: Parade Entry Form  
The historic parade route starts on 3100 South, heads north on 8560 West, and then west on 2700 South (Magna Main Street) through our newly designated Magna Commercial Downtown Historic District
 
The parade is only one part of the fun, community & celebrations scheduled for July 3rd, 2021!  Events kick off at 7 am with a Flag Raising, a 5K & Kids Fun Run put on by Magna in Motion, Breakfast will be served by the Knights of Columbus, and the day wraps up with Music in the Park (Magna Copper Park) starting at 8 pm and Fireworks at 10 pm!  Full details can be found at: www.magna4thofjuly.com, including volunteer opportunities for those interested.

Northrop Grumman 2020 Cyprus High STEM Scholarship Recipients PC: Northrop Grumman

The Magna Chamber of Commerce announces the 2020 Future Business Leaders Scholarship Awards in recognition of achievement in Science, Technology and Education.  

Benjamin Searle was awarded for his Outstanding Achievement and received a $1,500 scholarship.  Jacob Pentico was awarded for his Excellent Achievement and received a $1,000 scholarship.  Isabel Cossa was awarded for her Merit Achievement and received a $500 Scholarship.

These scholarships were made possible by a generous commitment from Northrop Grumman to help reach the educational goals of Cyprus High School graduating seniors who intend to pursue studies at a Utah institution of higher education.

Candidates were required to have a minimum GPA of 3.6, complete an essay on their educational goals and career interests as well as provide a faculty nomination letter for review by the Selection Committee as designated by the Magna Chamber of Commerce.  The Granite Education Foundation will coordinate the one time payment to the recipients higher education institute.  

We want to congratulate the scholarship recipients and their families, support them as they get ready to go to college, and encourage them to succeed.  Due to the COVID-19 public health orders we were unable to host our annual Scholarship Awards Luncheon.

Magna 4th of July Parade 2020 Cancelled

At the May 26, 2020 Magna Metro Township Council Meeting, the Council Members directed their Administrator to issue a statement regarding their option to cancel the Magna 4th of July Parade.

The Magna Town Council has been the operator of this event, and generally brings 20,000 people into our community. Due to COVID-19, the event & health permits cannot be secured.  We appreciate the efforts of our elected officials, and their Administrator.

We look forward to making Magna’s 4th of July 2021 an event to remember!

Northrup Grumman Innovations Systems/Magna Chamber of Commerce Scholarship
Recommended Criteria 2020

AWARD

$1,500 for Outstanding Achievement (Science/Mathematics Category)
$1,000 for Excellent Achievement (Science/Mathematics Category)
$ 500 for Merit Achievement (General Category)

Requirements:

  1. Graduating high school seniors from Cyprus High School are eligible. Preference will also be given to students
    intending to pursue studies at a Utah institution of higher learning.
  2. U. S. Citizenship.
  3. Academic achievement: overall minimum GPA of 3.6. For Science/Mathematics category, GPA in math and
    science courses should exceed 3.6 average.
  4. Completion of a formal application. Applicants should complete the attached form, and include a one-page
    essay about her/his educational goals and career interests. Applicant should also list and describe memberships
    and associations and other extracurricular activities. A high school transcript of courses completed and grades
    earned should be included.
  5. Letter of references/recommendation. A one-page letter should be written by the nominating faculty to reiterate
    the reasons for nomination, including personal observations of the applicant’s progress and achievements.
  6. Applicant selection: For Science/Mathematics category, applicants should be nominated by the math and
    science faculty. For the General category, applications should be nominated by faculty from the specific
    subject area. The selected applicants should meet all criteria included in this outline.
  7. The Selection Committee as designated by the Magna Chamber of Commerce will review the applications and
    select scholarship recipients. The decision of the Selection Committee is final.
  8. Deadlines. Candidates should complete and submit their applications to Magna Chamber of Commerce by
    May 29, 2020. All applications need to be received at info@magnachamber.org no later May 29th. Scholarship recipients will recognized and notified by Magna Chamber and Northrup Grumman no later than
    June 19th.
